RICHARD LANE’S WEEKLY ROUND UP

Abacus Lighting CMAL Roundup for November 16th

Not a lot of midweek action this week with just one league match and a couple of Derbyshire Senior Cup ties.

The league game in the Black Dragon Badges Premier North saw Doncaster City move to within a point of leaders Dinnington Town following a 5-0 defeat of Hatfield Town at Armthorpe. It took just ten minutes for Mohssen Mohamed to give the home side the lead and that’s how it stayed until six minutes before half time when Jordan Turner added a second, Mohamed’s second in the last minute of the first half coinciding with a red card for the visitors which virtually decided the outcome. Callum Nicell added a fourth on 55, Abdulrahman Alghamdi ending the scoring two minutes from the end by which time Hatfield had been reduced to nine men.

The two Derbyshire Senior Cup ties had widely differing results. South Normanton finally ended their barren run with an impressive 2-1 win at Northern Counties East side Shirebrook Town, Marc Bright’s first half goal and a second after the interval from Josh Devereux setting the Shiners up for a third round tie at Long Eaton United. Holbrook Sports in contrast found Clay Cross too hot to handle, the Millers going home with a 6-0 win for their efforts.

WEEKEND MATCHES

It’s twelve successive league defeats for Glapwell, the latest one 4-1 at Kiveton Miners Welfare on Friday night. The visitors conceded their customary early goal, this time from a well taken individual goal from Umar Mohammed on 7 minutes. Two in five minutes late in the half from Will Palmer and Abdul Asad virtually ended the game as a contest, Asad got the fourth after 49 minutes, Glapwell’s consolation coming in the 69th minute, a shot coming back off the post and striking 40 year old chairman Liam Wajs, who had come on as sub before winding up in the back of the net.

On Saturday Dinnington Town clung on to their four point lead by their fingertips after a late winner against a resolute Blidworth Welfare side who had twice taken the lead. Kyle Bacon struck first in the 7th minute the lead short lived, Jed Phillips equalising two minutes later. A spectacular 25 yard free kick on 20 minutes from Tris Burrell gave the visitors the advantage for a second time with Liam Royles levelling again with 36 minutes on the clock. As it seemed that Dinnington were going to forfeit two precious points, Josh Baxter grabbed an 89th minute decider to leave the visitors despondent. It was 3rd v 4th at Bentley where Elite were the visitors, their positions reversed after the hosts ran out 5-1 winners. Jordan Snodin got the first of his three on 10 minutes, Jake Holdsworth adding a second four minutes later. Brad Sykes scored again in the 35th minute, this one immediately wiped out by Jacob Swales. Snodin got his second shortly before the break and completed a hat trick two minutes into the second half from the penalty spot to complete the afternoon’s scoring. Hatfield Town beat SJR Worksop 3-1 to remain in fifth. Hatfield led at the midway mark with a 29th minute Joel McCabe goal, Joe Bean equalising six minutes into the second half. Danny Parkes put Hatfield back in front in the 76th minute with the ever reliable Callum Stockton making the points safe six minutes from time. To use a cliché, Harworth Colliery snatched victory from not the jaws of defeat, but more from the back of the throat, two goals deep into added time depriving AFC Phoenix of a rare win. Phoenix went in front on the half hour, Tom Dainty the scorer and looked set to take the points but very late goals, timed at somewhere between 92 and 101 minutes, opinions vary, gave the hosts an unexpected win. In only their second league match since mid September, Worksop Town Reserves were 4-1 winners at Yorkshire Main, the goals from Ethan Slater (2), Kirk Bradshaw and Rostic Yaremenko with Ash Cantrill replying for Maun. Rossington Main Reserves remain at the foot of the table, Staveley Reserves running in six goals without reply. The Trojans were two up after four minutes and four to the good by half time, adding two more before the hour mark. The goals were shared between Danny Fullwood (2), Alex Coates, Matt Goodwin, Josh Nicholls and Dylan Betts.

Graham Street Prims stay top of the Premier South table, with a 2-1 win at Wirksworth Ivanhoe for whom these were the first points dropped at home this season and brought an end to a sequence of seven straight wins. Prims’ goals were scored by Pharrell Waite and Shane Nicholls, Tom Mellor with one for Ivanhoe. At last a league win for South Normanton but the margin of victory was hardly overwhelming, the only goal of their home game with Bakewell Town an 84th minute penalty put away by Josh Scully. The revamped Teversal had their best result for a while but drew another blank as a deciding goal three minutes from time saw Cromford & Wirksworth Town secure a 3-2 win which takes them into fourth place. Tevie went ahead on 3 minutes with a goal from Sam Jackson but a brace from Ben Cartwright, the first from an 18th minute penalty followed by another on 37 minutes put the hosts ahead by half time. Oliver Baines levelled up midway through the second half, but this was another match with a late twist as sub Luke Roper hit the winner for Cromford in the dying minutes. Mickleover RBL survived a dismissal early in the second half to beat Linby Colliery 2-0. The Legion scored in each half, Jordan Lee with the first a minute before the break and Harry Banks giving the hosts a cushion fifteen minutes from time. As Mansfield Hosiery Mills won last time out, it was a fair bet they wouldn’t win this week, and that was the case as Mickleover Reserves left the Fieldings with a 3-1 win.  Liam Carter with a double and Elliot Riches won it fir the visitors, Billy Brooks scoring for the Mills. Richard Hanslow scored both goals in Holbrook St Michaels 2-0 win over Gresley Reserves and Ricky Aletan hit the only goal of the game as Derby Singh Brothers took the points at home to Arnold Town. Holbrook Sports defeated AFC Normanton 3-0. The home side went ahead on 15 minutes through Owen Nixon, following it up with goals from Elliot Meehan two minutes before the hour and confirming the win as Luke Stone wrapped things up a minute from time.

One of the few remaining Buckingham Insurance League Cup first round ties proved to be a one-sided affair, Melbourne Dynamo inflicting a 9-! defeat on Division One Ashland Rovers. Jack Goodband grabbed four of the visitors’ goals, Jack Griffiths added a hat trick, leaving one apiece for Tyler Withers and Dylan Muir. Declan Dawn’s goal for Ashland wasn’t much of a consolation.

There were a handful of games in the Macron Store ottingham Division One. Two games in the North Division produced fifteen goals. Crowle Colts won 6-2 at Dearne & District with the goals coming from Callum Mold with two, Joel Jackson, Nathan Lock, Kian Woods and Shay Baron scoring one each. In reply, Harvey Corbutt and Flynn Riley were Dearne’s goalscorers. FC United of Sheffield beat 780 JLC 5-2, Blake Wright (2), Finlay Staniland, Ehsan Mohammed and OJ Pyke all on target, Jimmy Purdy with both for 780. In the East, Pilsley Community and Long Bennington shared six goals, the hosts finding the net through Kian Barlow, Jake Brock and Nathan Flint, the visitors matching them with goals from Alfie Morley (2) and Jack Marshall. A Callum Banks goal in the last minute saw Eastwood and Kimberley take the points at Linby Colliery. One game, one goal in the West Division as Ollie Walsh scored the only goal against Mayfield. Meanwhile, in the South, Hemington Hammers rose to fourth after a 2-0 defeat of Baobab United, debutant Amar Dhariwal and Subin Rai with the goals. Stapenhill were 7-0 winners at Burton United, Brad Rankin getting a hat trick, Mikey Wilson scoring twice with Josh Johnson and Brad Walsh also featuring on the scoresheet

Rising Stars rose to the top of the Drayton PACS table after a 4-1 win at Aston Village. Tyrell Wheatley put them in front after a quarter of an hour, but the real damage was done in the second half as Bamoussa Cisse (57 minutes), Tirhys Davidson (68) and Michael Walsh (75) put the game out of reach. Aston finally making it on to the scoresheet with a 79th minute goal from Kieran Isaacs. Wirksworth Ivanhoe dropped to second after a 2-2 draw with Mickleover Athletic, for whom Matt Penikett-Barrett and Asher Lester-Newton were the scorers, Lewis Newman and Tom Donovan ensuring a point for Ivanhoe. Allenton United were 4-2 winners against Ashland Rovers Jayden Cozens scoring two, Chris Bitshuangu and Taylor Quenby with one each. Rowsley 86 put five past Ashover Noah Wayne with two of the goals, while Ross Bedford, Michael Lettall and George Barrington were also on target. Little Eaton were 4-2 winners against Winster Darley Lions.

There were five more ties in the first round of the Division One Cup. Mickleover Athletic put Burton Hornets to the sword, the final score 11-1. Kaelin Cole-Tonks and Jamie Laird both scored hat tricks, Cole Hassell added two with Sam Groves, Ash Smith and Joz Manzano completing the list, Harley Grice was the scorer for the Hornets. Epworth Town Colts beat RHP 6-1, Joe Bartlett and Sam Davies got two each, Charlie Shapland and Harrison Blackburn completing the half dozen, Seb Headley scoring for the visitors. The one tie which went to penalties was at Borrowash Victoria where the visitors were Mansfield Hosiery Mills Blue . After 90 minutes the sides were level at 3-3, Jacob Hawksworth, Harlee Ellul and Charlie Holness’s goals for the Vics equalled by Travis Roe with two and James Whitmore for the Mills. The resulting round of penalties went in favour of Borrowash 9-8. FC Sunnyhill beat Inter Belper 3-1, Lewis Benjamin (2) and Labrada Domini the scorers while Shilo Wilson hit the only goal of the game at Blidworth ensuring Little Eaton advanced to round two.

A good afternoon in the Sheffield FA’s Senior Trophy with three of our four clubs getting into the next round. The exception was Evo FC who were undone by a 91st minute goal from Denaby Main Development. After Denaby had gone two up in the first 17 minutes, Evo retaliated, Senan Hussein scoring a minute before half time and Sam Eades bringing the sides level on 65. Denaby regained the lead in the 78th minute but a Noah Kilcoyne penalty on 89 minutes looked certain to send the game to penalties but two minutes later the tie was settled. Bessacarr went through 3-2 against Penistone Church Over 35s with Beau Bailey scoring two and Daz Bird one. Kinsley Boys were 3-1 winners at Royston while SJR’s Development side beat Hemsworth MW Vets 10-2. Who said you can’t win anything with kids.
